Krakow Travel News: Seven of the best things to do in the ‘Florence of Poland’

Krakow is a city that effortlessly blends history, culture and entertainment. From the medieval to the modern, there is something for every traveller in Poland’s cultural capital.

Here, Travel News Blitz picks out seven must-do things to see and do that will make a trip to Krakow even more memorable.

Auschwitz-Birkenau

Auschwitz is dark, gritty and harrowing, but it is a sight that everyone who has the opportunity to, should go and visit.

A tour of the concentration camp will chill you to the bones, it is widely agreed upon that you can feel the death when walking through the site.

Wieliczka Salt Mine

One of the most incredible sights you will ever see, this mammoth mine includes an underground chapel, a lake, and enough salt to supply every chippy in the United Kingdom.

The two-mile tour covers less than two per cent of the mine's passages but will fill you full of new knowledge and an admiration towards the brave souls who spent their lives hundreds of metres underground.

Cosmic Games Pub

Cocktails and shuffleboard. That’s it really, and it's great fun.

The bar, located a short walk from the Old Town square, is chalked to the brim of classic games, from shuffleboard to cornhole, there is plenty to keep you entertained after a long day of touring.

Pro Tip: Make sure to get there early, as it's a small venue and fills up quickly!

Try Pierogis in a traditional Polish restaurant

Pierogis have to be one of the greatest food inventions of all time. Dumplings filled with meats, mushrooms, cheese and sometimes fruit, there is a variation for every palette.

Travel News Blitz recommends Pieromir for all your Pierogi needs, a small independent Bistro around a 20-minute walk from the Old Town Plaza.

Lost Souls Alley

Lost Souls Alley is an interactive horror house experience not for the faint of heart.

With multiple themed rooms, filled with puzzles and energetic acting performances, a trip to the horror house is sure to get your heart pumping.

Wawel Royal Castle

Much of Poland's history is intertwined within the Krakow-based castle. Not only utilised as the primary residence of Polish royal families, the Nazis also used the castle as their Polish headquarters during the Second World War.

The castle now features five separate museums and is the perfect way for history buffs to fill a day in the historical city.

Summary

Krakow is a vibrant and colourful city chalked full of entertainment.

Make sure to book your activities in advance, as many of the attractions feature long queues if you plan to buy your tickets on the day.
