Los Angeles Travel News: Seven sporting activities in the home of the LA Rams

When thinking of Los Angeles, it is easy to quickly associate the city with influencers, actors, rockstars, and week-long mansion parties.

However, the West Coast city is home to an incredible number of sporting experiences, suitable for those looking for an action-packed, activity-based getaway.

Here, Travel News Blitz picks out seven of the best sporting activities to fill a getaway to the City of Angels.

LA Lakers

A legendary basketball team, the modern line-up is every bit as prolific as Lakers teams of old.

All-time great Lebron James is still donning the iconic yellow and purple jersey at an astonishing 40 years of age.

Time is running out to see the future Hall of Famer, and there is no better place to watch greatness than in the Crypto.com Arena.

Los Angeles Rams

The Los Angeles Rams topped the NFC West standings at the end of the 2024 regular season, eventually falling to the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC divisional round.

Losing to the Super Bowl champs is definitely the best way to lose, and the LA Rams have shown themselves to be a side worth looking out for going forward.

The NFL preseason is due to start in August, so a summer LA getaway can be greatly improved by heading to see the Rams live in action.

UCLA Bruins

The UCLA Bruins are one of the most prolific and highly-regarded college sports programs in the United States.

With a successful men's basketball team, women's basketball team, and an American football program, there are almost always tickets to watch one of the highly-esteemed outfits in action.

Watch the MLS

Los Angeles is home to two titans in the US soccer scene. Reigning playoff champs LA Galaxy and 2024 western-conference winners LAFC both call the city home.

The MLS 2025 season is due to kick off on February 22, so picking an LA side to go and see will be the perfect way to spend a Saturday or Sunday afternoon to get some rest after an action-packed few days of activities.

Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum

Coined ‘the greatest stadium in the world’ by locals, the almost 80,000-seater stadium is currently home to the college football side, USC Trojans.

Open since 1923, the venue is recognised as a National Historic Landmark and is scheduled to host its third summer Olympics in 2028.

Surfing in Malibu

A short journey west of LA, the city of Malibu features one of America’s most famous surf spots.

With waves suitable for both beginners and experienced riders, the coastal stretch is the ideal place to catch some waves and chill out by the beach on a sunny day.

Pro Tip: If you are a beginner lacking confidence, there are plenty of surf schools in the area that will show you the ropes and have you carving in no time.

Muhammad Ali’s Star

‘The Louisiana Lip’ is arguably the greatest heavyweight to ever set foot inside the square circle.

With one of the most incredible portfolios of all time, Ali has triumphed against heavyweight legends such as George Foreman, Joe Frazier and Sonny Liston.

Ali’s Hollywood star is the only one out of over 300 to be elevated off the sidewalk, instead placed upon a building wall in a show of respect for the name Muhammad and its religious significance.

Summary

LA offers far more than first meets the eye. Stray from the usual Hollywood tourism scene and get stuck into the plentiful selection of sporting activities.
