Florida golf news: Seven of the best things to do at The Players Championship, Sawgrass

The Players Championship at Sawgrass is often dubbed the fifth major - and it is the first big tournament of the year.

Most of the world’s best are in attendance, and all eyes focus on the stunning Florida course in mid March every year.

Here, Florida News Blitz breaks down seven of the best things to do at The Players Championship.

TPC Sawgrass

Obviously, at the top of everyone's list is the Players Championship itself. Hosted every year at one of the world’s most iconic golf courses, this event is often dubbed as the fifth major.

The 17th hole, and its incredible island green, is a must-see. Make sure you arrive early to secure a spot to watch one of the most nerve-wracking shots in golf.

The Sawgrass Spa

Live like a player with some expert massages and treatments at The Sawgrass Spa.

Located within the Sawgrass Marriott Hotel Resort, the Spa offers plenty of options, from specialised sports massages to a day spa day pass offering access to a relaxing pool and fitness centre.

Play golf

Travelling to the area on tournament weekend, you won't be able to play Sawgrass itself.

However, that doesn't mean there aren’t plenty of stunning courses nearby to release your inner Scottie Scheffler.

Dye’s Valley Course is one of many options that offers a great round for travelling fans.

Enjoy local beaches

Located a short distance from the course, both Ponte Vedra beach and Jacksonville beach offer a scenic break from the hectic atmosphere at the championships.

Whether you are looking to enjoy the water or are just after a peaceful stroll along the beach, the local coastline is well worth a visit.

Fresh seafood and local cuisine

Both Ponte Vedra beach and Jacksonville feature a fantastic selection of restaurants and dining options.

Palm Valley Fish Camp specialises in locally-caught seafood, while Eleven South offers an upmarket steak and wine experience, and Valley Smoke perfects Southern barbeque.

If eating out seems too tiresome after a weekend of golf, there are plenty of food trucks around Jacksonville to grab a quick and satisfying bite.

Cummer Museum of Art and Gardens

Located in Jacksonville, this museum features a diverse selection of art from an array of time periods.

Outside the gallery sits multiple curated garden spaces, overlooking the Fuller Warren Bridge and St. Johns River.

Intracoastal Waterway

The Intracoastal Waterway at St. Augustine is truly breathtaking and filled with wildlife.

There are plenty of tour options to pick from. Some offer a relaxing sunset cruise, while others specialise in wildlife spotting, promising opportunities to see dolphins, manatees and more!

Summary

A weekend at the Players Championship offers far more than just world-class golf.

With plenty of local towns and beaches, there is tons to do within driving distance of the course.
