Naples Travel News: Seven must-dos in the birthplace of Pizza

Naples is an often overlooked travel destination, with holidaygoers opting for trips to Rome or Milan.

However, that doesn’t mean there isn't plenty to do in the seaside city.

Here, Florida News Blitz breaks down seven great things to do in the City of the Sun.

Pompeii

If you have ever dreamt about time travelling, a trip to Pompeii might just be enough to satisfy your inner Marty McFly.

Located not far from Naples, this ancient city was frozen in time by Mount Vesuvius' eruption in 79 AD.

It’s eerie, fascinating, and a must-visit during a stay in Naples.

Watch Napoli at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona

Football is more than just a sport in Italy, and nowhere encapsulates that feeling more than Naples. Home to SSC Napoli - the former team of the legendary Diego Maradona - Naples is football daft.

If you can get a ticket to the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona when Napoli are in town you will not be disappointed.

Napoli is currently fighting for the Serie A title, and as a result, the atmosphere is electric.

Even if you’re not a big football fan, this is one of those experiences that’ll give you goosebumps.

Visit Capri or the Amalfi Coast

If you need a break from the city's chaos, hop on a boat and head to the dreamy island of Capri or the stunning Amalfi Coast.

The coast is covered with dainty Italian villages that will make you want to drop everything and grow old at the Italian seaside.

Napoli Sotterranea

A labyrinth of tunnels and abandoned infrastructure lies underneath Naples in the Napoli Sotterranea.

A guided tour through Napoli Sotterranea will show you Naples’ ancient history. From ancient Greek foundations to World War II bomb shelters, the tour is an eye-opening expedition into the city's past.

Try local pizza

Naples is the birthplace of pizza, and no pizza is more highly regarded than what's on offer in the Italian city.

Head to legendary spots like L’Antica Pizzeria da Michele or Gino Sorbillo and order a classic Margherita. One bite and you’ll understand why people travel across the world for some cheesy bread.

Mount Vesuvius

Mount Vesuvius is undoubtedly one of the most famous volcanoes in the world.

After a short but steep hike to the summit, you will have the opportunity to stare into the crater of one of the deadliest volcanoes of all time, marking the end to an experience you won’t forget.

Bay of Naples

The Bay of Naples is the perfect stop for a low-key day in the city. Rent a kayak and paddle along the coast, or sail and windsurf in the bay.

The Mediterranean waters are stunning, and with Italy notoriously hot in the summer, it’s the perfect way to get some relief from the Italian sunshine.

Summary

Naples might not be as clean and tourist-catered as many of Italy’s other destinations. Although there is still plenty to do that will make a trip to the city worthwhile.

Just make sure you research before you visit, as some areas are worth avoiding.
